Chkdsk Does Not Work Chkdsk won't run; is corrupted
Problem: chkdsk errors, chkdsk does not run, chkdsk is corrupted
Probable cause: Registry corruption, hard disk failure, bad registry entries
Easiest Fix: Try a disk defrag, disk cleanup, and run a registry repair program (such as RegCure)
Chkdsk can sometimes become corrupted or run into problems with damaged registry files. The registry can become corrupted as well, hindering the proper functioning of your computer. There are numerous causes for this problem, and sometimes it's hard to pinpoint the solution. Our suggestion is to try these things:
Try A Defrag
- Go to start / Programs / Accessories / System Tools / Disk Defragmenter
- Run a defrag on all drives
Try Disk Cleanup
- Go to Start / Programs / Accessories / System Tools / Disk Cleanup
- Run the disk cleanup on all drives
If those do not work then try a registry cleaner.
Try a Registry Cleaner
A good registry cleaner can scan your registry and remove corrupted registry files that can interfere with the chkdsk utility.
Although the registry can be altered manually, this is NOT recommended for people without the proper knowledge and experience. A registry repair tool will automatically scan the registry and seek out damaged and corrupted files. It is incredibly easy to use and could save a lot of time spent tinkering around with different fixes that might not address your problem.
RegCure offers a free trial scan.

Before running any sort of major utility on your computer you should make a manual backup of the registry. This is an important safety measure when performing any work on your PC.
