Registry Fix is one of the lesser known registry cleaners, but it still continues to turn up in searches and advertisements. We got ourselves a copy of Registry Fix so we could test it out.
First Impressions Registry Fix Review
Registry Fix has a very basic interface. It's not flashy and it's encased in the standard Windows program box. This could actually be beneficial to those with slower systems. Registry Fix is a very small program and doesn't hog system resources.
When you first open the program you're greeted with three main buttons on the left and a bunch of "sections to scan" options on the right. Not the most intuitive way to structure the program, but not horrible either.
Basic Components Registry Fix Review
The three basic options are to scan your computer and fix errors, manage backups, and tinker with the Advanced options. The advanced options include:
- Browser Helper Manager (helps disable browser plugins like toolbars)
- Startup Program Manager (allows you to disable startup programs)
- Add Remove Program Manager (lets you uninstall programs)
- Full Registry Backup Utility (makes backups of the registry and lets you restore them)
As far as usefulness goes, we thought that the browser helper manager was neat, but the other utilities are nothing special and are already available in Windows in some way shape or form.
Overall Impressions Registry Fix Review
Overall we were a bit underwhelmed with Registry Fix. It will scan and remove errors, but that's about it. The scan itself took twice the time that RegCure and Registry Mechanic's scans took, and reported twice as many errors. The scanning time is directly related to the programming, however the errors reported seemed to be a bit on the high side. Some registry repair utilities are a bit over-zealous in their error reporting and thus run a higher risk of removing important files.
The program itself seems stable. This program would be easy enough for anyone to use, and it gets points for that. Overall, however, there are better options out there.
Score Sheet Registry Fix Review
Errors Found/Removed:

The scan itself took longer than the more top of the line programs, but found and removed just as many errors. Reported more errors than the leading repair utilities, leading us to believe that it is a bit overzealous and thus runs the risk of removing important entries.
Ease Of Use:

Registry Fix is simple and easy to understand. Nothing complicated about its design or presentation. Makes backing up and restoring the registry a cinch.
Features:

Very basic on the features. Nothing unique except for the browser helper manager, which will really help out certain users who are having toolbar issues or slow internet and browsing speeds.
Customer Service:

Registry Fix offers an email helpdesk type customer service system for its paying customers. Online help manuals were a bit spotty but adequate.
Overall Score:

Registry Fix does the basics of registry cleaning, but we think you would be better served with RegCure, which offers better support and comes from a company with a stronger background.
